Short Bio - Roel May

Roel May is Senior Research Scientist at the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA). His research interest is set in the interface between science and conservation, and is centered on impacts of renewable energy on wildlife and spatial ecology. His current project portfolio includes R&D on mitigation measures to reduce avian collisions with wind turbines (INTACT), green infrastructure in rural-urban areas (IMAGINE) and participation in EU-funded research in the Greater Serengeti Ecosystem (AfricanBioServices). He is an active member of the International Energy Agency Wind Task 34 – Working Together to Resolve Environmental Effects of Wind Energy (WREN). May has coauthored 27 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, and over 30 reports. He received his PhD degree on “Spatial Ecology in Wolverines in Scandinavia” at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in 2007. He received his Master of Science degree in Forestry/Ecology in 1996 (Wageningen University, the Netherlands). He has worked in the Netherlands, Scotland, Tanzania and Norway.
